"Today, May 11, 2006, is Endangered Species Day, officially declared so by
the US
Senate just last month. Is this a day for celebration or reflection? Is it a
call to action? BFCI encourages you to stop by your local AZA-accredited zoo
or
aquarium (http://www.aza.org/FindZooAquarium
<http://www.aza.org/FindZooAquarium> ) to admire the diversity of endangered
species housed there and to learn about ways you can help make a difference.
For
those of you with the power to engage others, don't let this opportunity
slip
away.
We also encourage you to take a moment and browse through the natural
histories
and conservation needs of US threatened and endangered butterflies
(http://www.butterflyrecovery.org/species_profiles/
<http://www.butterflyrecovery.org/species_profiles/> ).
By making changes in
your garden and land management practices and by staying active in local
land
use and development issues, you can make a difference for many of these
species.
Best,
Shelly
