Insect Pollinators Initiative meeting announced

A town meeting has been announced for stakeholders interested in taking
part in the Insect Pollinators Initiative - the £10 million project
aiming to tackle insect pollinator decline.
The Insect Pollinators Initiative will fund research to understand
better the threats to insect pollinators and to develop appropriate
mitigation strategies. This initiative was launched in April by the
Wellcome Trust, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research
Council, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the
Natural Environment Research Council and the Scottish Government.
A call for expressions of interest will be issued at the town meeting
on 3 July and interested stakeholders are encouraged to attend. The
meeting will outline the nature and scope of the call for proposals.
The funders particularly encourage proposals from multidisciplinary
research groups. This may involve collaborations between established
pollinator researchers and researchers working in other relevant areas,
such as virology, invertebrate disease transmission, epidemiology and
modelling. Collaborations involving beekeepers are also welcomed.
Systems-based approaches will be important, along with state-of-the-art
technologies and methods.
For full details about the town meeting and further eligibility
information, please see the Insect Pollinators Initiative webpage.=0
