20 - March 1, 2012
2012 Pollinator Identification Course
NSERC-CANPOLIN is pleased to announce that the next POLLINATOR
IDENTIFICATION COURSE will be held at the
Canadian National Collection (CNC) of Insects, Arachnids and Nematodes
in Ottawa, ON from February 20 - March 1, 2012.
The 10 day course will once again be split into two components, with five
days on flower flies and five days on bees, and a one day break in between.
Jeff Skevington (AAFC) and Chris Thompson (USDA) will instruct the fly
portion, and Cory Sheffield and Jason Gibbs (York U) will instruct the bee
portion.
A formal call for applications will go out in September*. Graduate
students working on CANPOLIN projects will receive priority for space and travel
support, but others may apply to participate as space permits.
(* Students who have already expressed their interest in the course will
still need to apply at that time.)

Comments from past course participants:
"There is no better way to learn how to identify pollinators than being
taught by the people that have developed the keys."
"The opportunity for networking and collaboration was incredible."
"There was a good mix between lectures and hands-on practice at
identification. All the instructors were great and were very approachable".
"I would recommend this course quite emphatically to anybody interested in
pollination or taxonomy of insects. I wish there had been the opportunity
to take courses like this during my undergraduate degree."
"The instructors and assistants were all very knowledgeable, approachable
and did an excellent job in instructing us.
