Highways BEE Act:  Recognizing the potential for both economic savings and
mini-fauna wildlife and pollinator native forbs and grasses habitat on 17
million acres of highway rights-of-way (ROWs), DOT would be directed to use
existing authorities to facilitate efforts by State DOTs and other
transportation ROWs managers to implement integrated vegetation management
(IVM), including reduced mowing and plantings of native forbs and grasses
that will benefit pollinators.

 

Lead co-sponsors Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) and Timothy V. Johnson (R-IL) are
planning to introduce the Highways Bettering the Economy and Environment Act
(Highways BEE Act) during National Pollinator Week (NPW), on Thursday, June
23.

*** Special Note of Thanks-Volunteer Supporter Ken from Florida on his own
initiative launched a complementary petition through other networks asking
concerned individuals to sign on to the group letter.  He reports that as of
yesterday, there were over 500 additional signatories, and still growing!
Ken has generously offered to provide the signatory list to be appended to
the group support letter when it is transmitted to key Members of Congress.
