Presented by LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division), Wildflowering L.A. is
a
native wildflower seed planting initiative throughout LA County
beginning
in October 2013 by artist Fritz Haeg.
Wildflowering L.A. brings a wild and beautiful seasonal native
landscape to
open plots of land. 50 sites are selected from an open call based on
visibility and distribution across the county. At 2 workshops in
partnership with The Theodore Payne Foundation for Wildflowers & Native
Plants, soil prep, seeding, and wildflower tending are demonstrated.
One of
four custom wildflower seed mixes is prescribed for the selected site -
Coastal, Flatlands, Hillside, and Roadside- inspired by Reyner Banham's
"Los Angeles: The Architecture of Four Ecologies". Each of the selected
sites is identified with a carved wood sign. The project culminates
with an
exhibition in spring 2014.
If you are interested in participating:
- You should have ownership (or permission/access from the owner) of an
open plot of land that is sunny and completely visible from the street
that
you will be able to take care of for the duration of the project
- Seeds are provided for areas from 500-2000 sq. ft.
- A 4x5 wood sign is installed on each site after the seeds are planted
by
the owners in November
- Each site will be on a published map and photographed before/after
for
the exhibition.
- Please email a photo of the site taken from the street or public
viewing
spot, square footage, and the complete address for consideration to:
