Purely anecdotal, but I had native willows (Salix nigra) growing in Athens, GA and have observed native willows in coastal sage scrub in San Diego (Salix lasiolepis) and I was struck by how popular they were with the bees! I wish I could grow them in my dry yard in La Mesa, CA. I plant for the bees.
