[Pollinator] Recent New York Times Articles

Dear Kelly:

Thanks for sharing but poisoned plants are much closer to my home in Saint
Louis than I anticipated.  I went to our local Home Depot to buy my wife a
bag of potting soil (I'm big on romantic gifts).  While there I treated
myself to two pots of perennials.  Upon taking them home and planting them
in the garden I received an unpleasant surprise.  When I removed the little
plastic sign-stake that identifies the plant and its growing conditions I
found a smaller narrow stake.  The stake announced that the plant had been
treat with  Neocon herbicides and this was all perfectly safe and legal
according to the EPA.  Surprise, I then looked at the second plant (a
ground cover) in the second pot and found the same stake.

This is literally overkill. The first plant is a Japanese hybrid hosta. If
you grow these plants you realize that they live almost forever and
virtually no insect eats them.  I have a typical shady backyard with the
usual populations of snails and slugs and they leave the hostas alone.  I
wonder if I should return to Home Depot and see if every (most) of the
annuals and perennials have been treated?  Perhaps other members of NAPPC
might make visits and check their local franchises?
