Executive Director
The North American Butterfly Association, the largest group of people focused on butterflies and their conservation, seeks an Executive Director.
This is a rare opportunity to take a nationally important nature/conservation organization to the next level.
About the North American Butterfly Association
· A national 501(c)(3) non-profit organization headquartered in Morristown, New Jersey, whose group exemption status covers approximately 25 chapters that are located throughout the U.S
· Owns and operates the 100-acre National Butterfly Center in Mission, TX, an exceptional education and conservation center that is the largest botanical garden in the U.S. focused on using native plants in a garden setting
· Its monitoring programs have amassed the largest database of butterfly occurrences in the world
· Publishes two outstanding magazines, American Butterflies and Butterfly Gardener
· Increases the world’s populations of butterflies by encouraging the creation of habitat for butterflies by thousands of citizen volunteers, through its Butterfly Garden Certification Program
· Has saved the last viable colony of Regal Fritillaries in the eastern U.S., succeeded in getting Miami Blues listed as endangered and has begun an innovative program to save Bartram’s Scrub-Hairstreaks
· Works with other organizations and is a member of the steering committee of the Monarch Joint Venture and is the only NGO member of the South Florida Endangered Species Working Group
About the North American Butterfly Association Executive Director Position
The Executive Director will:
· Obtain grants and contracts from foundations and government agencies
· Grow NABA’s membership base
· Heighten the public profile of NABA
· Obtain donations from individuals
· Supervise, hire, cultivate and evaluate staff, building a professional and enthusiastic team
· Work with the Board of Directors and the Board President to implement a strategic plan
· Identify and develop opportunities to partner with other organizations to further NABA’s mission
Requirements
· Bachelor’s Degree or higher
· Demonstrated passion for nature and a real interest in butterflies
· High energy that is focused on success
· Demonstrated leadership experience
· Demonstrated experience with grant writing and obtaining grants, preferably from both private foundations and from government agencies
· Demonstrated experience with marketing/social media
Location:
This position will preferably be located in Morristown, New Jersey, but other locations may be considered.
Compensation:
Salary will be competitive, commensurate with experience. Successful leadership will be rewarded with bonuses and salary increases.
