Happy Pollinator Week!

The just-released report, *State of the Butterflies in the United States:* *A
Roadmap for Butterfly Conservation in the 21st Century *summarizes recent
studies that quantify the rate of loss as well as regional profiles that
can help conservation planners understand which species are seeing the most
severe declines or are doing well in their areas. It also outlines specific
actions for anyone to help recover butterflies, with detailed solutions by
landscape type, including natural areas, working lands, and towns and
cities -- and some recovery success stories for inspiration.

Some regions of the US are doing less worse than others, but overall, we
are losing butterflies at a rate of 1.3% per year. And that isn't only rare
or geographically limited species, it is species that are widespread and
considered common, too.

To put this in context, it's graduation season: An 18-year-old student
leaving high school has witnessed a 20% loss of butterflies in their
lifetime. Someone leaving after 4-year college, will have witnessed a 25%
loss of butterflies.
