Dear pollinator people,

A while back, my colleagues Ben Iuliano, Chatura Vaidya and I asked you to complete a survey about research priorities and attitudes among pollinator researchers and conservation practitioners. Many of you generously responded. We’re excited to share a newly published article that incorporates what we learned from that survey:

Iuliano, B., Vaidya, C. & Fitch, G. (2026) Saving bees or sustaining industry? Challenging neoliberal narratives in North American pollinator research and conservation. Insect Conservation and Diversity, 1–13.

The article is a perspective piece, arguing that pollinator research and conservation may be limited by a market-based framing. We argue that the field should move toward an abolitionist-inspired approach, focused on dismantling damaging systems and building new ones. We hope it sparks some conversation!

Thanks to everyone who responded to our survey, and to all of you for all you do for the pollinators.

best,
Gordon
