Greetings Botaniphiles,
January was the warmest and driest on record here, forcing us to
hand-water nearly all of our non-succulent container plants both
within and outside the greenhouses—a first for this time of year!
February has seen the rain return in full force with washed out roads
and flooding not far from us... though things are calm at the
moment...

The SPECIMEN PLANT LIST: is updated with a medley of new offerings
and a sale on select plants, see
https://sacredsucculents.com/#specimen-plant-list. Offerings include a
selection of Specimen Seeds, this is some of
the only seed we are currently shipping --
international seed orders are welcome.
_Many specimens have been selling out, so
take advantage of these offerings while
you can! _
For folks in colder regions of the US, we can ship your order with a
heat pack for a $5 fee. __
ANDEAN TUBER CROPS:
We have a dwindling number of tubers available, see
our updated page https://sacredsucculents.com/andean-tuber-crops/2024
was another difficult year and our stock
remains _very_ limited. To honor ongoing
requests, we also list [after the tubers] a
small quantity of seed of other Andean
Food Crops (kiwicha, kaniwa,
quinoa, caigua, tarwi, etc.) to grow in your
garden this coming season! This and the Specimen
Seed is the only retail seed we are offering
this year; _international seed orders are
welcome_!__
BOOKS: We have several books on sale this month,
https://sacredsucculents.com/#books, including the 3 still-in-print
softcover titles by legendary ethnobotanist Jonathan Ott.
The Jonathan Ott Book Project:
As previously mentioned, we are collaborating with Jonathan
Ott on the publication of a deluxe series of eleven volumes,
including four new titles and four new editions of his
long-out-of-print books, see www.jonathanottbooks.com. These hand-made
limited editions will be leather-bound, signed & numbered
collector’s volumes with original art by renowned painter Donna
Torres.
Production is underway, the launch to this exceptional series is a
two-book box set of the long out-of-print _Ayahuasca Analogues_ and_
Shamanic Snuffs_—14 of these deluxe sets are currently available to
purchase:
https://jonathanottbooks.com/product/limited_edition_ayahuasca_book/
_Ayahuasca Analogues_ and _Shamanic Snuffs_ have been out of
print for decades. The original editions of each individual title
have recently sold online for more than the price of the _entire_,
deluxe, new two-book set. Handmade with a level of artistic
craftsmanship far beyond what you normally find in deluxe or limited
edition books, this magnificent set is more than just a beautiful new
edition of these engaging and historically important ethnobotanical
monographs, but a work of art in itself. This gorgeous artifact is a
worthwhile investment—made to last for generations, destined to
become coveted by collectors and ever more valuable with time.
_Don’t pass up your chance to invest in this historical set now!_
In the coming months, the bookbinder will be shipping us batches
of 10 sets as he completes them. These will be made available on a
first come first serve basis as we receive them. However, their
production in Mexico means that a looming possibility of tariffs may
increase the price of future sets. Ott Book Project
Fundraiser—the very first of the Numbered Box Sets:
The first numbers in any limited edition are the most
valuable, in this case these are not just the first numbered sets of
_AA/SS_, but also the first in the entire eleven book series which we
hope to publish in the coming years… with your support! To aid the
Ott Book Project’s launch, and to help offset some initial
obstacles, we’re offering the first ten of these collectible,
signed & numbered box sets at fundraising prices. Currently, only
four copies remain [#2, 3, 4, 6]—_order one while you can__ and
help to fund this unique publishing project__!_

Classes with Mateo Magee:Our dear friend and companion on many of
our Andean expeditions, Mateo Magee, is offering an educational
retreat in Wimberly, Texas, May 24–25, to share some of what he’s
learned during the course of his unparalleled 27 years of
apprenticeship in the healing systems of Andean curanderismo. See
https://www.livingtheceremony.com/sacred-temple-gathering for more
information and to reserve your place. Mateo also has a number of
amazing online classes and courses available:

A new page with full descriptive and
photographic accounts of our
distributed _Trichocereus_ BK accessions remains
under construction, see
https://sacredsucculents.com/trichocereus-bk-accession-info/
We're aware there is
some confusion out there
around our _Trichocereus_
BK_ _accessions
distributed over the years.
For clarity, we recently began
work on a document that
catalogs all 40+ of these
field accessions together in
one place. While fleshing out
the descriptions more
thoroughly, we're
incorporating greater detail
about the Andean habitat of
each collection, including
companion plants associates,
plus additional ethnobotany
and regional history. We also
recognize the value in sharing
information about distribution
-- what year we originally
introduced an accession into
cultivation, what it was
(seed, cuttings, seedlings),
what has been distributed over
the ensuing years, and
approximate quantities. It turns out that all this
is a _much_ larger
undertaking than we'd first anticipated! In our scant
'spare' time, we've been
looking over _thousands_
of photos, reading through our
old field notes, two decades
of _Sacred Succulents_
catalogs, and hundreds of
pages of _SS_
supplements, rare plant lists,
etc, not to mention additional
reference material. We now
endeavor to work on this in
stages, updating the webpage
periodically, with the goal to
have the entire project
completed before summer 2025.
Expect more descriptions and
images to be posted in the
coming weeks!
__
Note: _Sacred Succulents_ is
currently operating at reduced
capacity, other than what's listed
among the Specimens and Andean tuber
page, we are still _not_ taking seed
orders or plant orders from the PDF
catalog.
