Greetings,
Spring has arrived
after another winter of erratic and unpredictable
weather. While some plants have tolerated the manic
swings from unseasonal warm and dry, to deluge and
cold, many others have suffered. This was yet another
winter where many of our _Trichocereus_ growing
outside have sustained considerable damage. Not as
extensive as the previous winter, but still far worse
than we’re use to. This will continue to effect what
cuttings we have to offer this year. Despite these, and a worrying
number of other losses, we do have some new offerings
in the works including a spectrum of seedlings which we’ll release
in the coming months—first release _Trichocereus_
hybrids, rare _Bursera _&_ Boswellia_, Andean
species, and unusual Edibles & Medicinals.
SPRING SALE!
_The largest sale we’ve had this
year_—significant discounts on over 3/4 of our
Specimen Plants and our New and Rare & Used Books.
This is also your last chance to order some of the
Andean Tubers until next winter, with sales on several
varieties.
All sale prices are good through April 30, or
while supplies last. _Many offerings are selling out,
so order while you can!_
__
The SPECIMEN PLANT LIST:
is updated with a medley of new offerings and
an extensive SALE, see
https://sacredsucculents.com/#specimen-plant-list.
Offerings include a selection of
Specimen Seeds, this is some of
the only seed we are currently
shipping -- international seed
orders are welcome.
__
ANDEAN TUBER
CROPS: April is your _Last
Chance_ to order Oca, Mashua
and Ulluco tubers until next
winter! We have a dwindling
number of tubers available, a
few are on sale, see our
updated page https://sacredsucculents.com/andean-tuber-crops/
After
several difficult years, our
stock remains _very_
limited. To honor ongoing
requests, we also list [after
the tubers] a small
quantity of seed of other
Andean Food Crops
(kiwicha, kaniwa, quinoa,
caigua, tarwi, etc.) to grow
in your garden this coming
season! This and the Specimen
Seed is the only retail seed
we are offering this year;
_international seed orders
are welcome_!

BOOKS: Most of our
books are on on sale this month, both New and
Rare & Used titles - https://sacredsucculents.com/#books. This
includes the 3 still-in-print titles by the
legendary Jonathan Ott.
The Jonathan Ott Book
Project:
We are collaborating
with ethnobotanist Jonathan Ott on the
publication of a deluxe series of his books,
including completely new and long-out-of-print titles. These hand-made
limited editions will be leather-bound, signed
& numbered collector’s volumes with original
art by renowned painter Donna Torres.
www.jonathanottbooks.com
The launch to this unparalleled series is a two-book box set of
the long out-of-print _Ayahuasca Analogues_
[densified 2nd edition!] and_ Shamanic
Snuffs_—currently, only 7 of these deluxe
sets are available to purchase:
https://jonathanottbooks.com/product/limited_edition_ayahuasca_book/
_Ayahuasca Analogues_ and _Shamanic
Snuffs_ have been out of print for decades.
The original editions of each title
have sold online for more than the
price of the _entire_, deluxe, new two-book
set. Handmade with an exceptional level of
artistic craftsmanship, this magnificent set is more than just
beautiful new editions of these important
ethnobotanical monographs, but a work of art
in itself. A worthwhile investment—made to
last for generations, destined to become
coveted by collectors and ever more valuable
with time. _Don’t pass up your chance to
invest in this historical set now!_
Jonathan Ott Book News & Updates:
* Ott Book Project
Fundraiser—the very first of the
Numbered Box Sets: The first
numbers in any limited edition are the most
valued, in this case these are not just the
first numbered sets of _AA/SS_, but also the
_first in the entire book series_ which we
hope to publish in the coming years… with
your support! To aid the Ott Book Project’s
launch, we’re offering the first ten of these
collectible, signed & numbered box sets at
fundraising prices. Only two copies remain! [#
3, 6]—_order one while you can__ and help
to fund this unique publishing project__! _
*Tariffs _may_
increase the price of future sets. In
the coming months, the
bookbinder will be shipping us batches
of 10 _AA/SS_ sets as he completes them. These
will be made available on a first come
first serve basis as they arrive.
However, with their production in Mexico, it is still
unclear what tariffs we may have to pay and if this will force us to
increase prices. _Secure your copy at the current price by ordering
now_. *Donna Torres completed the fronstispiece
painting for the next book in the deluxe edition series and
we've posted this along with her detailed description. This
next volume is an original work on the sacred _coca_-leaf, the
title has gone through several iterations and Jonathan has now
settled on: _Word-Woven Worlds of the Word Leaf: A
Cocaficionado’s Pharmacognostical Pæan. _We hope to
begin production on it this summer, but this will only happen
one there are sufficient sales of the current deluxe _AA/SS_
sets. We also just got word Donna has begun painting the
frontispiece for number 4 in the series, a substantially revised
edition of the beloved classic _The Cacáhuatl-Eater: __Ruminations
of an __Unabashed Chocolate-'Addict'_.
*Jonathan has added another title to the future
publications, bringing the current total number of prospective
books up to _twelve_ [with 5 new titles and at least 5 new
editions]. The new title is _Psychoptica, Shamanism and
Modern Life_, currently listed as number 6 in the queue (see
https://jonathanottbooks.com/#ottbook-series-list). This will
be the first time in book form of a special issue of the _Journal of
Psychoactive Drugs_ which Jonathan edited in 1979 and has
rarely been seen by anyone outside academia. It is an amazing
anthology of articles by Albert Hofmann, Richard Schultes,
Gordon Wasson, Sasha Shulgin, Grof, Weil, Plowman, etc.
*Jonathan has written a long description for his one work of
_fiction, __Ometochtzin_ (a Conquest-era historical piece,
replete with extensive scientific notes on psychoactive
_Agave_-wines), and this synopsis is now up on the website --
number 10 in the queue of titles. This work was originally
written as a screenplay in Spanish and Nahuatl and his plan
for publication had been to only translate the notes into
English; however, I'm happy to report that I've convinced him
to publish it with _complete_ English translations next to the
original script. If all remains on track, we hope to reveal
this singular work to the world in 2027.
*To stay informed about the latest
book releases, possible pre-orders, as well as current news, articles
and interviews with Jonathan Ott, sign up for the email list at -

There is plenty more in the works, but right now we're requesting
grass roots assistance with spreading the word about the Jonathan
Ott Book project. Neither Jonathan nor myself are on social media
and for all of the outstanding titles in this unprecedented
series to eventually see publication in accordance with the
author's vision, we need to increase awareness of the project.
If you feel inclined, we'd appreciate any online mention of the new
_AA/SS_ set, the forthcoming series, and links to the website._ _

Affirmation of the Imagination
Podcast:Listen to a delightful conversation
the folks at Weird Studies recently had with
our friend Erik Davis about John Crowley’s
novel _Little, Big_ [we assisted the
publication of the 40th anniversary
edition]. Erik has previously written about
this wondrous book, and here they use it as
a springboard to talk about enchantment and
the imagination, anomalous experiences, and
the transporting power of prose. See -

Classes with
Mateo Magee: Our dear
friend and companion on many of our Andean
expeditions, Mateo Magee, is offering
an educational retreat in Wimberly, Texas,
May 24–25, to share some of what he’s
learned during the course of his
unparalleled 27 years of apprenticeship in
the healing systems of Andean curanderismo.
See https://www.livingtheceremony.com/sacred-temple-gathering
for more information and to reserve your
place. Mateo also has a number of amazing
online classes and courses available:

A new
page with full descriptive and photographic
accounts of our distributed _Trichocereus_ BK accessions
remains under construction, we added to it this
week. See https://sacredsucculents.com/trichocereus-bk-accession-info/
We're aware
there is some
confusion out there
around our _Trichocereus_
BK_ _accessions
distributed over the
years. For clarity, we
recently began work on
a document that
catalogs all 40+ of
these field accessions
together in one place.
While fleshing out the
descriptions more
thoroughly, we're
incorporating greater
detail about the
Andean habitat of each
collection, including
companion plants
associates, plus
additional ethnobotany
and regional history.
We also recognize the
value in sharing
information about
distribution -- what
year we originally
introduced an
accession into
cultivation, what it
was (seed, cuttings,
seedlings), what has
been distributed over
the ensuing years, and
approximate
quantities. It turns
out that all this is a
_much_ larger
undertaking than we'd
first anticipated! In
our scant 'spare'
time, we've been
looking over _thousands_
of photos, reading
through our old field
notes, two decades of
_Sacred Succulents_
catalogs, and hundreds
of pages of _SS_
supplements, rare
plant lists, etc, not
to mention additional
reference material. We
now endeavor to work
on this in stages,
updating the webpage
periodically, with the
goal to have the
entire project
completed summer 2025.
Expect more
descriptions and
images to be posted
soon!

Note:
_Sacred Succulents_ is
currently operating at reduced
capacity, other than what's
listed among the Specimens and
Andean tuber page, we are
still _not_ taking seed orders
or plant orders from the PDF
catalog.
