[BerkeleyDailyPlanet] Something to chew on for a rainy day

Dear subscriber,

Someone today told me he had difficulty knowing how to read the Planet—when
to expect a new issue, etc.  Well, so do I.

The legacy software we use just accumulates postings until I tell it to
move on.  Ordinarily, I start creating a new issue toward the end of a
week, and then press the “publish” button sometime on Friday when I judge
that most of what I’m expecting has arrived and been posted.  That turns
the “Next” issue into the “Current” Issue and the “Current” issue into the
“Previous” Issue.  The “Next” button vanishes until I start working on the
issue for the following week, when it reappears, after which you can see
the new work in progress as it’s posted by clicking on the “Next Issue”
button.

Is that all perfectly clear?  No?  Well, you can always just type
berkeleydailyplanet.com into your browser and see the latest front page.  It
will also display anything that’s come in for the current issue after it’s
officially published on Friday—often the most exciting current developments.

These subscriber letters list all the links for the current issue and the
immediately previous issue according to their headlines,  so that’s another
way to make sure you don’t miss anything.
