[Pollinator] Question about soybean pollination

Dear NAPPC Scientists,

I just received an inquiry from Jeff Anderson of California Minnesota Honey
Farms regarding the application of insecticides to soybean fields for
soybean aphid control.

He reports the following, "some of the literature reports that production
does not fall until about 30 of a plant is defoliated, I doubt I've seen 5%
damage in treated fields. I see no research being presented as to the value
added in increased production and oil content from properly pollinated beans
vs. improperly pollinated, vs. spraying, killing pollinators as well as
aphids and lowering production/oil and the cost benefit from either model."

Would any of our NAPPC researchers have information regarding the
pollination of soybeans?

You may respond directly to Mr. Anderson at: jsa.cmhf at juno.com

Thanks for your help!

~Kim
