Ninety percent of the world's crops are pollinated by insects. We tend to think of honeybees doing all the work, but there are a plethora of other pollinating insects. Colony collapse disorder &#8212; the name given to the strange affliction suffered by European honeybees &#8212; is one aspect of a general problem. In recent years, pollinators have been harmed by a reduction in habitat, new pests and overuse of pesticides.
