National Pollinator Week started June 20 and will last until June 26. In case you never heard of it, Pollinator Week was created in the Senate a few years ago to bring awareness to the issue of the decline of common pollinator populations such as birds, bees, bats, butterflies, moths and beetles. These little creatures, some less pleasant than others, play a major role in the balance of our eco system and the good health of our planet. By carrying pollen within flowers and from flower to flower of the same species, they not only help insure the proper fertilization of these plants but also the successful production of their fruit and seeds. More than one thousand species of plants need to be pollinated to produce many of the most common food and beverages we depend on such as apples, blueberries, melons, peaches, pumpkins, vanilla, almonds, chocolate and coffee among others. Who would have thought that such unobtrusive little creatures could be carrying the balance of our pla
 net on their frail shoulders?









Burt’s Bees has been supporting bees, its favorite pollinator, since 2007.
