Hi everyone,

Here's a short video produced by the NRCS in California to mark pollinator
week. It highlights the great work being done by the Gallagher family to
promote pollinators in their almond orchard in California. It's a good
example of the kind of private lands conservation that is being done in
many states. In this case, the Gallaghers began working with the NRCS about
10 years ago and then more recently, in 2013, invited the Xerces Society to
advise on pollinator conservation. At that time, they had partially
restored approximately 10 acres of native grassland adjacent to their
almond orchard in Colusa County, CA. Prior to their restoration efforts,
the area was dominated by non-native weedy grasses and invasive weeds such
as yellow-starthistle. Xerces worked with the Gallaghers to get a handle on
some of the weedy vegetation encroaching into their restorated areas, and
allow the newly planted native grasses and wildflowers to take hold. In
particular, we focused on increase wildflower cover and diversity
throughout the area to support native pollinators.
