Job Summary
*This is a Temporary Unclassified position with an anticipated end date of
09/30/2021. Depending on future funding this position could be converted to
a permanent classified position.*

This position exists to provide science-based information on ecological
processes, range of natural variation, and ecological approaches to be
integrated into planning, management and conservation of native terrestrial
invertebrates. The position provides technical guidance on the
distribution, ecology and current conditions of native terrestrial
invertebrates and associated native plants and habitats needed to achieve
sustainable management and protection of native terrestrial invertebrates
in MN.  Examples of strategic priorities that will guide the position are:
EWR Strategic Plan, DNR Pollinator Conservation Plan, Mid-America Monarch
Conservation Strategy, Minnesota’s Wildlife Action Plan, Minnesota
Biological Survey Strategic Plan and the Strategic Acquisition Plan for the
Scientific and Natural Areas Program.

 Job Responsibilities:

   - Work with members of the DNR pollinator team to complete the draft DNR
   Native Pollinator Action Plan.  Coordinate department-wide, implementation
   of the priorities from the Native Pollinator Action Plan.
   - Coordinate implementation of monarch conservation efforts on DNR and
   other protected lands, as described in the Mid-America Monarch Conservation
   Strategy.
   - Coordinate DNR’s participation on the Interagency Pollinator
   Protection Team (IPPT).
   - Wildlife Action Plan Implementation Team Member:  Collaborate with
   other team members to effectively implement strategies and actions outlined
   in the Wildlife Action Plan.  Within the team, take the lead for
   conservation strategies and actions focused on terrestrial invertebrates.
   - Work with DNR terrestrial invertebrate experts, outreach staff, and
   external partners to promote pollinator conservation to the public.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

   - Bachelor’s degree in entomology, ecology, zoology, or closely-related
   field.
   - Three years professional experience coordinating large programs or
   projects, including planning and facilitating partnership meetings.
   - Experience with, or an educational focus on terrestrial invertebrates,
   particularly pollinator species.
   - Experience in the management of conservation lands (manage, enhance or
   restore habitat) or working with conservation land managers (i.e. applied
   ecology).
   - Ability to assemble, analyze, interpret data, and apply knowledge to
   project activities.
   - Demonstrated ability to use GIS, Arc Map and statistical analysis
   software.
   - Proficient in the use of word processing, presentation, and
   spreadsheet software such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
   - Ability to clearly and effectively communicate scientific and
   technical concepts concerning terrestrial invertebrate conservation both
   verbally and in writing to appropriate audiences.
   - Advanced human relations skills and demonstrated ability to work
   collaboratively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

   - Master’s degree in entomology, ecology, zoology, or closely-related
   field.
   - Knowledge of DNR programs, policies and procedures.
   - Training in facilitation and project management.
   - Experience writing and/or implementing conservation plans that include
   long-term goals, objectives, monitoring and multiple partners.
   - Experience working with diverse groups including state, county, local,
   tribal, federal agency, and conservation organizations.

Physical Requirements

Occasionally lifting articles such as 50 pound bags of feed maximum and
frequently lifting and/or carrying objects such as heavy tools and file
boxes. This job may require walking or standing to a significant degree on
rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and
pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
