Dear Ballot Guide Subscribers,
Thank you for your (involuntary) patience! I’m asking you to hold out another few days….
This coming week I’ll be sending out the properly researched edition of the Ballot Guide, about the single ballot proposition on the Nov. 4 ballot: Proposition 50.
This proposition puts to a vote of the people the suspension of a decision by the people — the drawing, and the system of drawing — Congressional districts.
I will add a personal suggestion: Vote early enough — on time — to be counted. But don’t rush to judgment! Take the time to seek out different perspectives, different views, so that you can feel you’ve reached a well informed view. I don’t mean to say that your first impression is wrong, but when you do the reflection and let it sit for a day, for a week — you’re more likely to feel good about your decision. And you’ll be better able to have a good discussion with others, of other points of view.
Prop. 50 is a good opportunity to have thoughtful discussions about the nature of democracy in our money-driven and (currently) no-nothing-barred political system.
Yours, Darien

Individuality is cherished and nurtured, because, in order for the whole to flourish, each of us has to be strong in what we are and carry our gifts with conviction, so they can be shared with others…. a visible manifestation of what a community can become when its members understand and share their gifts. In reciprocity, we fill our spirits…"
