The True Word

The word is a catapult, that
After I climb the mountain,
Hurls me into the vast sky and blue silence

The true word is an arrow that plunges to the heart of oaks
Slays falsehood
Gives wing to imagination

That word is a stone
Dropping though clear water
In the well of knowing

Such a word is a match
Flashing a mountain of dead wood
Into conflagrations rivaling the sun

Any word is the road that winds as you say
And goes where you speak

The good word turns anybody into somebody,
And somebody into a beloved

The seeing word makes small things big,
Big things small
All things known

The word makes the tongue a brush,
The ear a vast canvas of singing images

The true word gives heart, takes heart,
Sings heart, wakes heart

The word is an old river that whispers forever
The quietest and best of stories

	- Garth Gilchrist

To speak gratitude is courteous and pleasant, to enact gratitude is generous and noble, but to live gratitude is to touch heaven.
