This Is Your Life

Early morning
I ring three bells to
begin zazen

I sit very still
SIP
this unquiet quiet,
suffering everywhere.

A much bigger bell
is sounding
one all
humanity might hear

Will this void
finally reveal the real
mystery,
all of us inseparable

desperately holding on
to this planet spinning
through space?

Then it’s simple, all of us:
what do we love and how,
to what and to whom
do we bow?

See how that hawk holds up
the impossible blue
sky?
