How to Love - Harold Sloane

How to Love

It’s not so hard

But being inarticulate

It seems that it lies beyond our grasp

We name it, and so in a flash lose it

While our heart knows

The “ten thousand things” are true, always.

Sea spray

Like oxygen

Like the sky

Lacks edges

And a flock of House Finches in constant motion

(Branch to branch)

sing freely for no reason.

In the end, it’s like that -

A whif of jasmine on the Summer breeze

 A smile

A dance

A song

You stop, and it’s gone
