When you do the countdown at midnight, perhaps streamers in hand,
     where are you?
With the sequined crowd? Or in front of a screen 
     counting with the Times Square ball?

You’re certainly not celebrating last New Year’s Eve.

You’re not living your morning when the dog woke you barking or 
     you had to scrape ice before you drove.

Not yet living tomorrow, when you will wake in early light for an
     icy dip or at noon with a hangover.

Not beginning your resolutions for the New Year.
Not quite.

Not counting the resolutions from last year that didn’t make it 
     past January 10.

For right now all your awareness is in the count, 
     a moment shared sequentially every hour around the globe.

Now, is the chance to start the year in 10 glorious moments of presence.

To bask in a moment of unity, joy, and celebration with all humanity.
 
1
Because 
     One is all there is.
