Mr. President
Some Things To 
Consider On The
New Year



First give back 
everything

then write a note 
to be read
on the White House
lawn

asking for forgiveness
and an understanding 
of your torments 

then retire to Maine
and become a bee-keeper
with a fondness for poetry

take long winter walks
away from yourself

save a place in the
singing sky for birds

bake pies for the 
school bake-sale

save a pie
for your neighbor

chop your own wood
in silence

And slowly over time
the winter in your heart
will become spring
