The Planning And The Execution

I try to prioritize
in advance of each morning,
map etched in my head
before going down
to my study

eager to pursue
those inspirations
in a long vibrant session
of companionship with truth,
beauty, love and surrender

and then a tree falls
through the roof.
I stop and do the work
to get that big trunk
cut up and hauled away
and the roof patched,
then looking at my watch
am overjoyed to see
golden hours
yet remain.

Then a flock of sheep
crashes through my window
followed by a wolf!
Round and round they go,
my morning plan
once again toast.

It’s another hour
before animal control
comes for the wolf and
the sheepdog and shepherd
begin guiding the flock
back to its own pasture.

Ah, there’s still precious time
before I have to go
pay the world its due.
I’ll edit this piece now
and maybe it will be
a new little light
upon our Earth.
