Dark Harvest


the ground is tilled

the earth prepared

with caring hands

hoping for a next harvest

bringing sun, soil, rain to life

 

when plows become swords

and wheatfields, battlefields

blood turns soil dark once spilled

seeping in where children once stood

life ends there, no harvest needed

 

the earth still knows what to do

it knows the long view

it closes over all wounds

it has done so forever

it has seen this before

 

it patiently waits 

to take our seeds 

hatred or hope

ours to decide

only ours
