Dear Pollinator Partner:
Since we have had a flurry of recent SIGN ON requests (a Senate Agriculture
Committee statement has already been filed), and since things are happening
fast, we are offering some clarification.
TODAY is the deadline for you to AGAIN sign on -- and it is important that
you do so -- this time for LEGISLATION being introduced in the Senate by
Senators Baucus and Chambliss that adds pollinator habitat to Farm Bill conservation
provisions.
The letter provides support for the sponsors of the bill, and helps lay the
groundwork for markup of the Farm Bill in coming weeks. It is below and
attached.
As an organization, you may sign as such.
As a researcher, you may sign as an individual with your affiliation or
institution.
As a government employee, you may sign as a private citizen. This is your
choice.
Thank you for your rapid response and your help. Contact us or Tom Van
Asdall (tom at vanarsdall.com) if you have questions.
Thank you,
Laurie Adams

RE: Support for Pollinator Protection Habitat Act of 2007
DEAR SENATOR BAUCUS AND SENATOR CHAMBLISS:
THE UNDERSIGNED ORGANIZATIONS SUPPORT THE POLLINATOR PROTECTION HABITAT ACT
OF 2007.
YOUR LEGISLATION UTILIZES EXISTING FARM BILL CONSERVATION PROGRAMS TO
STRENGTHEN BOTH NATIVE AND MANAGED POLLINATOR HABITAT BY REQUIRING EXISTING
CONSERVATION PROGRAMS TO ACKNOWLEDGE POLLINATOR HABITAT AS A CONSERVATION RESOURCE AND
REWARDING PRODUCERS WHOSE CONSERVATION PRACTICES ARE BENEFICIAL FOR
POLLINATORS.
POLLINATORS ARE ESSENTIAL PARTNERS IN MUCH OF AGRICULTURE AND IN HEALTHY
ECOSYSTEMS. STRENGTHENING FARM BILL CONSERVATION, RESEARCH AND OTHER PROGRAMS IN
THE FARM BILL TO BETTER ADDRESS POLLINATOR HABITAT NEEDS AND BEST MANAGEMENT
PRACTICES REPRESENTS A CRITICAL STEP IN SUSTAINING AND ENHANCING POLLINATORS
AND THEIR HABITAT.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUING LEADERSHIP ON BEHALF OF POLLINATORS AND
POLLINATOR CONSERVATION.
RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED,
