Thanks to Peter Bernhardt for sharing the below.

Dear Colleagues:
Please read the message below and I apologize sincerely for sending it out
so late. Some of you may be in the St. Louis area this Thursday. Perhaps
you'd like to submit a poster as there will be several speakers during the
evening. Posters on pollinators are entirely appropriate considering
Darwin's past studies on Bombus, Andrena spp., orchid-pollinating moths
(Acontia and Caradrina) etc.
If you are wondering how Darwin's book on orchid pollination relates to more
modern concepts of flower-insect evolution, and how this ties into wider
issues of conservation please consider reading...
Alcock, John 2006 "An Enthusiasm for Orchids: Sex and Deception in Plant
Evolution," Oxford U. Press Inc., New York,
The color photos are excellent. Alcock concentrates on his fieldwork in
Western Australia and you will learn quite a lot about the role of male
wasps in the Tiphiidae as pollinators. The author's chapters on
biodiversity and conservation can certainly be applied to North American
scenarios.
Sincerely, Peter Bernhardt

Dear SLU Graduate Students and Evolutionary Biologists,
The Missouri Botanical Garden, together with SLU, UMSL, and WashU, is
sponsoring a celebration of Darwin's birthday on Thursday, February 12th.
The celebration starts at 7pm and includes presentations by Dr. Patty
Parker, Dr. Alan Templeton, and Dr. Urusula Goodenough.
http://www.mobot.org/lectures/darwin/hbdaydarwin.asp
The organizers are requesting that graduate students working on any aspect
of evolutionary biology bring posters to the symposium to share with the
broader community. It is fine to bring posters that were put together for
previous meetings. This is a great opportunity to promote evolutionary
literacy in the community and to highlight ongoing work in evolutionary
biology at SLU. The work doesn't have to be on plants - all organisms are
welcome.
If you have a poster and are interested in participating, please let me know
or contact Peter Stevens ( <mailto:peter.stevens at mobot.org>
peter.stevens at mobot.org).
Thanks very much, and hope to see you at Darwin's birthday celebration!
Allison
