Sustainable Gardening Practices
are Focus of AHS Garden School in June
Alexandria, VA (June 9, 2009) – On June 27, the American Horticultural
Society (AHS) is offering a new Garden School, “Green Garage®: Sustainable and
Earth-Friendly Solutions for the Landscape” in Alexandria, Virginia.
Presented in partnership with the City of Alexandria, this program will focus on
environmentally friendly gardening practices from organic lawn care and
water conservation to soil health and creating wildlife habitats.
The Garden School will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Lee
Center in Alexandria, Virginia. Featured speakers will include: Marcy Damon,
grassroots restoration coordinator for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Jeff
Lowenfels, soil health expert and author of Teaming with Microbes: A
Gardener’s Guide to the Soil Food Web; Paul Tukey, author of The Organic Lawn
Care Manual; and Douglas Tallamy, author of Bringing Nature Home: How Native
Plants Sustain Wildlife in Our Gardens. The program will also include an
exhibit hall featuring companies that offer green products, services, and
tools.
