BACKGROUND:

.         A new, bipartisan Congressional Pollinator Protection Caucus
(CP2C) was launched during National Pollinator Week (NPW) by House of
Representatives Co-Chairs  Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) and Timothy V. Johnson
(R-IL).  

.         They were joined by the following founding CP2C Members:  Leonard
Boswell (D-IA), Henry Brown (R-SC), Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), Bob Goodlatte
(R-VA), Tim Holden (D-PA), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Rosa DeLauro (D-CT),
Dennis Cardoza (D-CA), Randy Neugebauer (R-TX).  

o   Rob Wittman (R-VA) joined this week!

.         CP2C'S Purpose:  "To strengthen the United States' pollinator
protection relationship as well as provide educational opportunities for
Members of Congress and their staff on issues affecting the political,
economic, and national security of pollinators and their habitats."

o   Rep Hastings:  "The caucus is a bipartisan source of information and
discussion related to how natural, political, and economic developments
impact the security of pollinators and their habitats." 

.         P2 facilitated the CP2C launch through a National Pollinator Week
hill briefing on June 24.

o   P2 will continue supporting CP2C and helping increase the membership and
urges other stakeholder groups to take similar action.

 

HASTINGS H RES 1460 ON NATIONAL POLLINATOR WEEK PASSES HOUSE!

.         House Resolution 1460, introduced on June 22 by Rep Alcee Hastings
in recognition of National Pollinator Week, was debated and passed by the
Full House on June 29.

.         Cosponsors:  Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), Leonard Boswell (D-IA),
Corrine Brown (D-FL), Dennis Cardoza (D-CA), Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), Tim Holden
(D-PA), Timothy V. Johnson (R-IL), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Michael Michaud
(R-ME), Adam Putnam (R-FL).

.         During floor debate, Rep Cardoza, chair of the House Ag
Subcommittee on Horticulture and Organic Agriculture, and Rep Frank Lucas
(R-OK), ranking member of the Ag Committee, spoke in support of the
resolution and the importance of pollinators.

.         Please join P2 in thanking Rep Hastings and the cosponsors for
their leadership action.  This the first time the full House has taken
action in support of National Pollinator Week, complementing the Secretary
of Agriculture's proclamation and a Sense of the Senate resolution authored
by Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) and passed by the Senate prior to the first
National Pollinator Week.
