When: Saturday, September 22, 2012

Time: 9:00AM - 2:00PM

Where: Superfund Site (former Chemical Commodities Inc. property) located at
the corner of Keeler and Cedar Streets in Olathe, KS.


Schedule


9AM: Assemble at site

9:10: Chip Taylor will give a short talk about pollination, the value of
pollinators and the
purpose of the 4 pollinator gardens.

9:20: We will divide into teams with each team lead by a captain who will
supervise the
planting of a specific garden.

10:45: Break time - Jeff Field and Joe Flaherty (EPA) will present the
history of the site
and the remediation efforts that have restored the site so that it can once
again be
used by the public.

11:00: Continue planting until we are done. If all goes well, we should
finish planting
before 2PM.

Feel free to takes breaks when needed.

Haley & Aldrich will provide coffee, water, soda, juice, and snacks. There
will be "port a
potties" on site and a place to clean dirty hands as well.

Advisory: Wear clothes appropriate for gardening and bring gloves. Though we
will be
working on mulch covered beds, you are likely to get dirty. Planting means
getting on
your knees so, if you have knee pads, it would be a good thing to bring
them. A trowel
would be handy too. Many of the holes will be dug by augers so the planting
should go
rapidly.

This planting party should be both fun and instructive and you will be
participating in the
creation of a wonderful educational resource. This event will also mark the
return of this
once dangerous site to public use.
