Monarch butterflies that go without food may end up with smaller, paler
wings, according to
<http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0093492>
new research in the journal PLOS One. To study the effect of food on growth,
researchers deprived monarch larvae of milkweed. They found that two days of
food restriction had a small but clear effect on wing size and coloration.
