Rudie Kuiter, of Victoria Australia, is continuing his impressive work on
the pollinators of native orchids. Prasophyllum (leek orchids) secrete
nectar and are often visited by wasps in several families. Would anyone
be willing to look at the attached photo series, confirm them as shots of
ichneumonids and be willing to slap a genus name on them?
Ichneumonids have been associated with nectar-secreting orchids in the past
but not in Australia. In the northern hemisphere they are known to
pollinate Listera (now Neottia) in Europe and Listera or Neottia ovata in
California. A colleague in China has found a Herminium species pollinated
by ichneumonids at >3000 in the Yunnan Himalayas.
