D.C.
Hi All,
Please forward to your respective networks, as appropriate.
As you know, we (the NPS) are hosting a major BioBlitz event this May - one
of our themes for our inventories is pollinators. We are looking for
volunteers to be pro-observers, field biologists, and expert naturalists in
our efforts. The headquarters of the event will be on the National Mall and
other national park sites in DC (in partnership with National Geographic
Society), however we will be hosting blitz events across the nation. This
invitation is for volunteers for the Washington, DC event only. Please let
me know if you have any questions.

Dear Colleague,
*We are currently recruiting iNaturalist Pro-Observers* to participate in
the National Parks BioBlitz - Washington, D.C.
and we invite you to join us! This is a unique opportunity for you to be
involved in a national celebration of the National Park Service Centennial
and our nation’s biodiversity. This is also a fun way for groups and clubs
to get volunteer hours outdoors. BioBlitz <http://natgeo.org/bioblitz>
events will be hosted by parks nationwide throughout 2016, with the goal of
observing as many species as possible.
In order to improve the species data collection and accessibility we will
be utilizing a digital application called iNaturalist
<http://www.inaturalist.org/>. We need your help to make sure we obtain the
best data possible. As an* iNaturalist Pro-Observer,* you will become an
expert in iNaturalist prior to the May 2016 event using online training
materials. During the National Parks BioBlitz, you will participate in
biological inventories and assist scientists and visitors in creating high
quality species observations. You do not need to be an expert in organism
identification to be an iNaturalist Pro-Observer, you just need a
tech-savvy mind and an enthusiasm for biodiversity!
We are also looking for field biologists and expert naturalists to lead
biological field inventories. If you have expertise in a certain group of
organisms, please consider registering to lead an inventory; see these FAQs

for more information.
If you're unsure where you fit in, watch this short video

find your niche in BioBlitz.

The National Geographic Society (NGS) and the National Park Service (NPS)
are teaming up for the 10th year to conduct a *BioBlitz*
<http://natgeo.org/bioblitz> in parks in and around our nation’s
capital on *May
20-21, 2016. *BioBlitz is an *all-taxa inventory* in which teams of
volunteers, each led by a subject matter expert, find and identify as many
species as possible within a 24-hour period. The National Parks BioBlitz -
Washington, D.C. and concurrent Biodiversity Festival on the National Mall
is a cornerstone event of the larger National Parks BioBlitz commemorating
the centennial of the National Park Service. You can see the growing list
of participating parks here
<http://www.nature.nps.gov/biology/biodiversity/bioblitz2016.cfm>.
*We encourage you to forward this message *on to friends, colleagues,
professors, students, anyone you else who you think would be interested in
these opportunities. Thank you for your time and we look forward to working
with you at the National Parks BioBlitz in May 2016!
Sincerely,
