*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*

*NACD AND POLLINATOR PARTNERSHIPNAME GEORGIA FARM WINNERS OF POLLINATOR
CONSERVATION AWARD*
*WASHINGTON* – Yesterday, the National Association of Conservation
Districts (NACD) and the Pollinator Partnership (P2) named *Brian* and *Becky
Tankersley* of *Double Branches Farm and Produce Market* in Georgia as the
2019 recipients of the North American Pollinator Protection Campaign
(NAPPC) U.S. Farmer-Rancher Pollinator Conservation Award.
The U.S. Farmer-Rancher Pollinator Conservation Award annually recognizes
an individual or family producer who contributes significantly to
pollinator species protection and conservation.
Located 35 miles north of Augusta, Double Branches Farm works cooperatively
with the *Lincoln County Conservation District,* grows berries and
vegetables, and offers pick-your-own produce. The Tankersleys operate the
farm as an outdoor classroom, educating visitors on the importance of
pollinator-friendly practices. Brian continues this outreach beyond the
farm, writing news articles on pollinators for the general public and
collaborating with the University of Georgia and agriculture companies to
provide pollinator seed packets for local communities and schools. Double
Branches Farm features wildflower plantings throughout the operation, as
well as native plants and small shrubs around their ponds and woodland
areas to provide additional habitat.
“Pollinators are integral to the health of working landscapes,” *NACD CEO
Jeremy Peters said. *“It is important that we recognize and champion the
producers who provide them with safe habitat and support their populations.”
The Tankersleys were presented the award by Peters and P2 Research
Director *Dr.
Vicki Wojcik* during the 19th annual NAPPC Conference in Washington, D.C.,
at the U.S. Smithsonian Castle. Previous award winners include NACD Soil
Health Champion *Brendon Rockey* of *Rockey Farms* in Colorado; *Lakhy Sran*
of *Sran Family Orchards* in California; and *Heikes Family Farm* in South
Dakota.
“We depend on pollinators to help support our food, fiber and fuel
supply,” *Pollinator
Partnership CEO and President Laurie Davies Adams said. *“Pollinators’
survival is essential to our own survival, and we hope to encourage other
producers to consider their own conservation stewardship practices.”
