Introducing *Leioproctus zephyr*, a new species of bee that I have
scientifically described!
This is my first published new species description and I’m buzzing !
This new species is highly specialised in its foraging hosts, collecting
nectar and pollen from just two Jacksonia species, and has a highly
restricted distribution, endemic to southwest WA.
The species epithet, Zephyr, is to honour my Maremma dog, who means so much
to me, having been a non-judgemental unconditional loving companion
throughout my darkest times.
It is Australia’s 1661 species of described bee species, but many more
await description.
The publication of this new species, ”Leioproctus zephyr Prendergast
(Hymenoptera, Colletidae, Leioproctus), an oligoletic new bee species with
a distinctive clypeus” is published in the Journal of Hymenoptera Research
