Céad míle fáilte (100 thousand welcomes)!
You're invited to the 2nd Sunday of the month Session, 7pm - 9pm on
February 10, Britannia Arms Pub, 8017 Soquel Dr., Aptos. This is a
slow/moderate/intermediate-speed session.

Etiquette guidelines:
1) Session starts promptly.
2) Going around in a circle, everyone has a turn to choose a tune and
the tempo. Tunes are generally played at moderate speed, but players
are willing to slow down if needed.
3) A single tune is played 3 times. In a set, each tune is played twice.
4) Talking beyond short chats or helpful comments please carry on out
of the circle or after the session.
5) This is a place of business. Please purchase something, if only a
coke. Come early and have some of the pub's tasty food.
6) In general, sheet music is not used at sessions (other than the 3rd
Sunday Slow Session). This is the session you can use to wean
yourself. Here's a website with tips on playing by ear:
   http://www.slowplayers.org/SCTLS/learn.html
Of course, use your tuneset book if needed.

Directions from Santa Cruz: South on Hwy 1, take State Park exit,

Go under a bridge. Pub's immediately on the left. Parking is best
just past the pub on the left in general village parking.

And passing on a note from Shelley Phillips for those who might want
to go to a workshop earlier in the day:

> Fiddle and Guitar Workshops Sun. Feb. 10
>
> Maeve Donnelly, fiddler from Co. Clare, and guitarist Tony McManus,
> originally from Scotland and now living in Canada, will be performing in the
> Santa Cruz area on Feb 9th and 10th. They are offering fiddle and guitar
> workshops on Sunday the 10th in Santa Cruz.
>
> Maeve will teach a few tunes and Tony will teach accompaniment. During the
> last half hour of the workshops, the groups will get together and play the
> tunes.
>
> Maeve, once a member of Moving Cloud, and now a solo artist, rarely tours on
> the West Coast. She is one of the finest, most passionate, inspiring
> fiddlers whose style is a mixture of Galway and Clare, but uniquely hers.
> As she states in the text of her new CD with Tony (Flame on the
> Banks)...these old tunes that she loves inspire a "flame" inside of her.
>
> Tony has become an internationally recognized star in the Celtic world as
> the guitar is deeply entwined with his soul. His technique is unsurpassable
> and although rooted in Scottish tradition, he has an incredible ability to
> play and accompany in a mind-boggling range of styles.
>
> This is a rare opportunity to study with two of the world's most
> accomplished musicians.
>
> Workshops: Sunday February 10th, 1 to 3pm, $25,
> 143 Alamo Ave. Santa Cruz, CA 95060
> info at communitymusicschool.org (831) 426-9155
