[Pollinator] Sand nesting bees

Hi all,

We planted a meadow with Y summer campers last year in a field at the local YMCA. There’s an unused volleyball court next to the meadow with a sand floor 8 in. – 1 ft. deep. Most of the summer, bees swarmed all over the sand. I think only a few people were stung--including me. Local entomologists have identified the bees as wolf bees and sand wasps.

The sand is wasted space for the Y. Can you suggest who might be interested in these bees? Thanks, Barbara

Interesting. Now, is this new stress a good or bad thing for ground-nesting bees?

Peter
