[Pollinator] word of caution - climate change and butterflies

As I mentioned after the Nov. posting of climate change and skipper
butterflies:
"The synopsis provided was taken from a website (CO2 Science) provided by
the
fossil fuel industry, and the supplementary information provided on that
website may contain information that does not necessarily support the
findings of scientists working towards the conservation of vulnerable
species and habitats."
It is interesting and informative to see how science can be used to support
both sides of the argument of global climate change, and how changing
environments may be a detriment to some species while perhaps becoming a
benefit to others.
Examples of this type of transition are quite common in wildlife
populations, as evidenced by ever abundant populations of deer and
blackbirds resulting from extreme habitat fragmentation - the same
fragmentation that threatens populations of other wildlife species
(including pollinators!).
So let's separate the 'spin' from the 'science' and keep the conservation of
native pollinators in their native environments at the forefront of our
activities :-)
Happy Holidays,
~Kim

For an up-beat view on the impact of increasing levels of atmospheric CO2 on
butterflies, read the article on the CO2 Science web site at
http://www.co2science.org/scripts/CO2ScienceB2C/subject/i/summaries/butterflies.jsp.
It seems that climate change will only bring good things for butterflies.
