The Winfree lab at Rutgers University is interested in donating several
thousand pinned bee specimens. The collection is primarily from summer
2013, with samples available from previous field seasons as well. All
bees were net-collected from flowers and killed with Ethyl Acetate,
which compromises genetic material. They are free from nasty things like
dermestid beetles and mold. In order of abundance, they are:
Bombus impatiens (>1200)
Bombus griseocollis (>700)
Bombus bimaculatus (~400)
Xylocopa virginica (>200)
If you are interested, the lab will consider making Halictus ligatus
specimens (Over 400) available for donation as well.
These could be used for reference or teaching collections, or
morphological studies. The Winfree lab is excited to share relevant data
to make your dreams come true. If we can't find a home for these
specimens, they will be destroyed.
If you can use them, please contact us to discussing packaging and shipping!
