[Pollinator] Gillibrand 'Highways BEE Act' amendment adopted by Senate Environment Public Works Committee!

Great news for Pollinators!

 

This morning the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee adopted an
amendment offered by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and included this
important provision in the Chairman's mark of the DRIVE Act (transportation
bill) that was reported out of the Committee this morning. 

 

The Gillibrand amendment is nearly identical to H.R. 2738, legislation
recently introduced in the House by Congressional Pollinator Protection
Caucus (CP2C) co-chairs Jeff Denham (R-CA) and Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL).

 

P2 collaborated with the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) in
building last minute support for the Gillibrand amendment, and we are
pleased that a number of organizations were able to join P2 and ASLA in
signing group letters circulated on extremely short notice.  

                                                   

P2 applauds Sen. Gillibrand's leadership, and commends the members of the
Environment and Public Works Committee for adopting the amendment on a
bipartisan basis.  This is the first-ever action in the Senate to encourage
pollinator habitat and forage on transportation rights-of-way.  

 

In addition to ensuring the provision stays in the DRIVE Act as it moves
forward in the Senate, efforts will increase in the coming weeks to support
H.R. 2738 and urge similar action in the House Transportation and
Infrastructure Committee.
