[Pollinator] Grasshopper control and pollinators

Rangelands cover vast areas of the western US. Although these grasslands
are often used for cattle ranching, they also support a diverse community
of insects, birds, and other wild animals. A significant proportion of
rangelands are publicly owned, so how they are managed, especially when it
comes to grasshopper control, is a topic of great concern. Extensive
spraying campaigns impact declining populations of monarch butterflies,
bumble bees, and many other insects. Agencies are making plans for spraying
this summer. This week’s article on the Xerces blog explores the topic in
more depth.
