*Pollinator Partnership (P2)* is looking for an experienced professional
who possesses the skills to coordinate California Pollinator Coalition
activities focusing on supporting farmers and ranchers. This candidate
should be a team-oriented professional, have a strong work ethic, and be
committed to the mission and values of P2. The successful candidate should
be interested in sustainable agriculture, conservation practices, and
technical assistance.
*About Pollinator Partnership:*
Pollinator Partnership is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission
is to promote the health of pollinators, critical to food and ecosystems,
through conservation, education, and research. As the world’s largest
organization devoted exclusively to the preservation of the birds, bees,
butterflies, beetles, and bats, P2 plays a key role in preserving
terrestrial ecosystems, promoting agricultural productivity, and enhancing
local communities through pollinator-centered work. P2 has been actively
supporting the conservation and protection of pollinators throughout North
America since 1996. A multifaceted approach using original science; habitat
preservation and creation; policy outreach; and public education has helped
P2 achieve our goals in pollinator conservation. Pollinator Partnership is
a founding member of the *California Pollinator Coalition* (CPC), made up
of a diverse group of agricultural and environmental organizations,
including USDA NRCS California, with the shared goal of providing enhanced
habitat for pollinators. For more information, visit www.pollinator.org.
*Principal Responsibilities:*
- The CPC Coordinator will work directly with agricultural organizations
to develop and distribute information and guidelines for implementing
crop-specific pollinator-friendly practices.
- Identify resource concerns, barriers, and incentives to the adoption
of pollinator friendly BMPs, catering to each cropping or ranching system
uniquely.
- Attend and convene outreach events such as workshops, meetings,
trainings, and webinars.
- Train farmers and ranchers on the use of existing technical resource
guidelines and the create comprehensive and crop specific resources.
- Gather information on key California agricultural concerns such as
drought management and native seed procurement; bringing those findings to
the Coalition to understand participant needs.
- Help pilot or customize practices for commodities, working with the
grower groups to develop and distribute best practices, including
information about the pollinator and agronomic benefits.
- Assist with CPC member meetings and facilitation.
- Monitor outcomes (adoption rates and effectiveness of practices)
- Align activities with the USDA NRCS California Strategic Plan, and
priorities including plant productivity, water quality, water quantity,
soil health/soil quality, and wildlife habitat while promoting NRCS
practices and programs.
*Required Skills:*
- Master’s Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management,
Agronomy or equivalent professional experience
- Experience working with agricultural landowners and commodity groups.
- Project Management, meeting coordination, and facilitation experience.
- Good understanding of habitat restoration including plant ecology,
site preparations, habitat installation, and maintenance.
- Understanding of California agricultural sector including crop
resource concerns and Integrated Pest Management issues.
- Ability to travel locally to project sites (personal car required;
mileage reimbursed). Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Understanding of state and federal regulatory guidelines for landscape
modifications (NEPA, CEQA, Conservation Easements etc.)
- Strong planning, implementation, and multitasking skills
- Strong organizational and communication skills, including excellent
verbal and written communication skills
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
*Preferred Skills*
- Pollinator biology, conservation, and research experience (including
native and managed bees, butterflies including monarchs, and other
pollinators)
- Knowledge of regulatory and conservation incentive programs, such as
USDA Farm Bill Conservation programs, and state conservation programs
- Pesticide applicators license
- Bilingual (Spanish, English)
*Compensation: *$33 - $36 per hour (20 hours a week). Travel and other
work-related expenses will be reimbursed. 1 year contract with opportunity
for extension.
*Location: *California - Central Valley preferred. This is a remote
position, and an office will not be provided.
