We are hiring a project lead to study population dynamics of monarch
butterflies in urban gardens in the East Bay area.  The position would most
naturally be at the postdoctoral level, but I am open to hiring an
experienced post-bacc or post-MS technician.  Minimum qualifications are:
(1) knowledge of population ecology, (2) experience handling butterflies,
(3) excellent interpersonal skills, (4) interest in pollinator gardening,
and (5) demonstrated ability to work independently.


This is a term position for 15-18 months, with some possibilities of
applying for ongoing funding.  Priority may be given to applicants who can
start during Fall 2021, and the position must start by early January 2022.



Field work is in the East Bay (near Berkeley, California).  The position is
administratively based at Tufts University in collaboration with Washington
State University.  Work will include monitoring demography of monarch
butterflies (including eggs, caterpillars, and adults) in urban gardens
(~85%), and contributing to public-facing outreach about pollinator
gardening and monarch butterfly conservation (~15%).  Work could include
involvement in statistical analyses and population modeling of urban
monarch butterflies, if the successful candidate is interested in building
these skills.  The position may include travel to Tufts University (in
Medford, MA, near Boston) and to pollinator gardens on Google campuses
